DIT lecturer is President-elect of TUI

Mr. Paddy Healy, currently Vice-President of the Teachers' Union of Ireland, was elected as the next President of the TUI during the union's recent annual conference in Galway.  Mr. Healy is a lecturer in the School of Physics in Dublin Institute of Technology and is also a Member of the Governing Body of DIT.   Commenting on the election, Professor Brian Norton, President of DIT said 'It is a tremendous honour to be elected to office by your peers, and I am delighted to congratulate Paddy Healy, who has been a distinguished member of DIT's academic staff for many years, and is now President-elect of TUI.  I believe it is an honour for DIT and I wish him every success!'

Aidan Kenny, Chairperson of the Dublin Colleges Branch of TUI, also congratulated Mr. Healy.  In a statement he said  "On behalf of the members of the Dublin Colleges Branch of TUI, the Chairperson wholeheartedly salutes Mr Paddy Healy's achievement at being elected the incoming President of the TUI. Paddy's integrity, resoluteness and innovative thinking have guided both this branch and national TUI policy over nearly the last quarter century. His unselfish voluntary commitment to pursuing the conditions of services of members is second to none."

Mr. Healy will take up office in July of this year, when Mr. Derek Dunne completes his term as President.
